It's true that it gives varying readings, but any thermometer will do that depending on where it's placed on the forehead or angled in the ear canal. I always take 3 readings and go from there.You are not supposed to take readings in the ear on infants less than 6 months old (their ear canals are not angled right), so the forehead/temporal setting is way cool. I work in a pediatrician's office and use a popular competing ear-only thermometer, I've found it gives varying readings as well. It just depends on placement. My 21 month old was wary of this at first, but after a few times of using it, he loves it. He WANTS me to take his temperature whenever he sees it. I also like the other features: backlit display, talking readout, 30 reading memory with date/time, flashlight, room temperature reading, and that it needs no probe covers. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful  Tells me Nothing!, This review is from: MOBI Digital Ultra Thermometer (Baby Product) I received one of these digital ultra thermometers as a gift when my daughter was released from the NICU. I was happy to have a high-quality, easy to use thermometer for when she got sick again. Imagine my surprise when now, 4 months later, she gets her first illness and I find this thermometer to be completely useless! I check her temperature 3-5 times in a row, alternating between temple, forehead, and ear and get readings between 94 and 100 degrees! This tells me nothing!
