Contrary to the original Amazon description, the MT series uses twist lock collars, not lever locks. While I always thought I preferred lever locks, I find the Giottos SDL twist locks are actually faster to use than levers. With the leg in the closed position, the three twist locks nest together so that you can grasp all three and open them at one time with only a 1/8th turn. Twist locks are also lighter than levers so they slightly reduce the weight of the tripod overall.The movable center column is a great feature and I can quickly set up the column in the horizontal position. With the legs spread to their widest of three positions, your camera can be only about 10.5" from the ground. All the adjustments possible with this tripod make it especially versatile. I am a long time Gitzo tripod user and have not had much exposure to many other support systems out there. My logic was you get what you pay for and that everything else was a cheap knock off... I have to say this Giottos tripod is so well made and the design is so innovative that and in many ways it is better than the Gitzo's that I have.I love the fact that the tripod comes with the tools, spirit level, leg padding, tripod bag, spiked feet and center column. Where as with my Gitzo tripod I had to purchase many of these things seperately from the legs itself. I would easily spend more on these Gitzo "upgrades" than I would have on purchasing this Giottos tripod. What a bargain!
